Fan Engagement 2020

Sport Industry held its fourth Spotlight session on Wednesday 22nd April; bringing together Ear to the Ground’s Richard Adelsberg, Barclays’ Katy Bowman and Hashtag United’s Neil Smythe to discuss all things fan engagement.

Together with Sport Industry's Alex Coulson, the panel engaged in a debate about the challenges faced by brands and rights holders due to the impact of coronavirus, whilst deliberating the next big thing to hit the industry.

As the pandemic has had an undeniable impact on the industry, Ear to the Ground's Adelsberg discussed the importance of understanding what fans really want from sport when it does return, and how bringing them into the decision-making process will be key for ensuring a unique level of fan engagement, post lockdown.

"We know that athletes have really turned it up and are engaging in a way that YouTubers have done previously. They are controlling their own content, in their living rooms with no one talking in their ear.
